“Emociones Ocultas” (Hidden Emotions), a work done in acrylic on canvas measuring 51 x 66 cm, delves into Maseda’s exploration of identity and the mind. In this composition, the black silhouette of the subject is defined and contrasts with the neutral background, while the fluorescent pink interrupts, marking the face with an expressionistic gesture that distorts and conceals.
The use of color is strategic; black, synonymous with the hidden, the unknown and often the sophisticated, forms the figure of the subject, who could be anyone in a contemporary urban environment. Pink, applied with an almost violent technique, is not only Maseda’s signature, but acts as a window to repressed emotions or unexpressed thoughts. It is a visual manifestation of what is present but not seen, what is felt but not said.
The work speaks of the conflict between outward appearance and inner turmoil. Through the absence of facial features, Maseda invites a reflection on personal and social identity, on how individuals present themselves to the world and what they hide. The raw brushwork and choice of colors reflect a tension between control and spontaneity, a balance between structure and chaos, suggesting that there is more to the person than meets the eye.
